Mountain Brook Schools Approves Surplus Budget

The school system will finish the year in the black with the budget approved by the school board.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — Mountain Brook Schools will likely end the 2017-2018 in the black, according to the Board of Education, who voted to approve the school year budget in their meeting on Monday, Sept. 18.

Mountain Brook School Superintendent Dicky Barlow indicated at the meeting that the system was "on the upswing," and that this year's budget would be the first in nine years to have a surplus. The school system was able to both spend less and accrue more money from property taxes, and Barlow said it should come out of the year with $221,000 left over.

Director of Facilities Tommy Prewitt also showed photos at the meeting displaying renovations made to the schools over the summer break.
