MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL — As the Jefferson County Department of Health has urged non-essential businesses to shut down, and restricted restaurants from offering meals outside of takeout, those workers who make their living from the restaurant industry will soon see the effects of the coronavirus in their bank accounts. But, Mayor Stewart Welch in Mountain Brook has come up with — at least — a temporary solution.

Welch has used funds from The Welch Foundation to go toward financial relief for restaurant workers in Mountain Brook. He said $100,000 will be used to distribute to those workers who apply for the funds.

Grants are up to $500 per current employee with a maximum of $2,000 per restaurant.
