New American Family Care Office Opens In Cahaba Village
The urgent care facility opened earlier than planned due to the high number of flu cases in the area.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - An urgent care facility has opened in Mountain Brook a little earlier than planned, thanks to an outbreak in flu cases in the community. The American Family Care office in Cahaba Village across from Whole Foods was not scheduled to open for another several weeks.
According to a report from the Birmingham Business Journal, the new Mountain Brook location will be the Birmingham-based company's 21st in central Alabama.
The high number of flu cases in Alabama have been a strain on local hospitals, and patients have been urged to see their personal physician or go to urgent care facilities in order to keep from backing up emergency room wait times.

"Our area hospitals and emergency departments are seeing an influx of patients that are seriously ill," said Dr. Mark Wilson, Jefferson County Health Officer. "If a person has a flu-like illness without signs of serious illness, he or she should remain at home. We recommend that they call their doctor first if they are unsure."
