Overton Road Traffic Discussed By City Council

Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills proposed a joint APPLE grant for the study of Overton Road from U.S. 280 to Liberty Park.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Overton Road in Mountain Brook has become one of the busiest roads in Mountain Brook, due largely to development in the Cahaba Heights area, Liberty Park and Overton Village. This week, the Mountain Brook City Council discussed to examine the traffic issues on Overton.

Mountain Brook and Vestavia Hills proposed a joint APPLE grant for the study of Overton Road from U.S. 280 to Liberty Park, according to a Village Living report. The next step in the grant process is to select a consultant to study the project, and Mike Kaczorowski with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham mentioned to the council Skipper Consulting and Sain Associates.

Because I-59/20 recently closed for bridge construction, Kaczorowski said traffic will be diverted and the numbers may be skewed, with more cars possibly traveling down I-459 and getting off at Liberty Park.

City Manager Sam Gaston said he would meet with Kaczorowski and officials from Vestavia Hills about Liberty Park and Overton Road and bring the conversation before the council again.
