Spartans Outlast Eufaula In Triple Overtime Thriller

Mountain Brook advanced to the school's fifth straight state championship game Monday after a triple overtime win over Eufaula.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Four quarters just weren't enough time to decide who would go on to play in the AHSAA Class 6A finals. Nor was one overtime. Or two for that matter, as Mountain Brook beat Eufaula 66-63 in Monday's semifinal game. The game went into triple overtime, and included more than a dozen lead changes.

The Spartans had the lead with a minute to go in the first overtime, but two timely free throws by Eufaula tied the game, and the Tigers' were unable to get off a shot at the buzzer after getting the ball back on a turnover by the Spartans.

The Tigers hit a three-pointer with a minute to go in the second overtime to take a 61-60 lead, but a free throw by Charlie McKimmon tied the score to take the game into a third overtime.
