MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - Summer is in full swing, and with kids out of school during the day, parents may be in search of things to do and places to go in and around Mountain Brook. Fortunately, there is not shortage of places, events and activities in the community this summer.

For parents of small children, events are happening daily at the Emmet O'Neal Library. From story telling sessions for toddlers to cooking classes for teens, the library has plenty to offer. The library's Toddler Tales series happens every Monday morning - with one session at 9 a.m. and another at 10:30. The Mother Goose series happens at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and the Patty Cake series takes place at those same times on Thursdays. The library also offers yoga classes, a summer reading series, music and more.

For outdoor fun, Mountain Brook has no shortage of parks and playgrounds. The Tot Lot in Crestline has been a staple in the community for decades. As well, Overton Park in Brookwood Forest offers a fantastic playground and picnic area, in addition to tennis courts.

For a good walk, Jemison Trail on Mountain Brook Parkway has been revamped and offers a scenic and peaceful walk or run for the avid runner or anyone wishing for an outdoor stroll.

The Birmingham Zoo and Birmingham Botanical Gardens near Mountain Brook Village are a must for families or adults alike. The Botanical Gardens also offers activities and classes for kids, including the Garden Explorers experience, Summer Garden Chefs series and more.

There are also farmers markets at Shades Valley Presbyterian on Wednesdays and Mountain Brook Presbyterian on Saturdays.

Love some live music? Do not miss the annual Otey's Fest in Crestline Village. This year's festival is July 13, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
