Area Hoops Stars Honored With All-State Selections

The Alabama Sports Writers Association included multiple players from the area in Sunday's All-State team announcements.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Sports Writers Association named several local players to its All-State teams in Sunday's announcements, and honored a local coach as Coach of the Year.

Hewitt-Trussville girls head coach Tonya Hunter was named 7A Coach of the year, while senior guard Amiya Payne was named a 7A first team selection. Freshman guard Jordan Hunter of HTHS was a third team girls selection.

Pinson Valley senior guard Jo Jo James was named to the 6A boys second team, and fellow Indians guard Greedy Williams was an honorable mention selection.

Jordan Chatman, a senior guard from Center Point High School, was a second team 6A boys selection.

The girls Player of the Year in each class will be announced April 3 while the boys Player of the Year winners will follow on April 4.

The Super 5 boys and girls teams will be released on April 8 with Miss Basketball announced on April 10 and Mr. Basketball on April 11.
