Child Dies In East Jefferson County Fire

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A child died in a house fire in the Palmerdale community of Jefferson County Wednesday. The incident occurred just after 11 a.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a call of a mobile home that was on fire at the 7600 block of Self Lane, according to Sgt. Joni Money.

The caller stated that a 7-year-old boy was trapped in a bedroom inside the home. Palmerdale Fire Department arrived on the scene and attempted to rescue the child.

Attempts to save the child were unsuccessful due to the extent the fire had progressed prior to their arrival, Money said.

The Alabama State Fire Marshall's Office will be handling the investigation.
