The Clay City Council raised fines for violators of the regulations at Cosby Lake.

CLAY, AL - People who violate the park rules at Cosby Lake in Clay will face a stiffer fine than before, now that the Clay City Council has decided to raise the penalties for rules violations.
According to a report by the Trussville Tribune, the council unanimously passed an ordinance stating, "Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the said terms and provisions of this ordinance may be punished by a fine not less than $250 for the first offense, $500 for the second offense, and $1,000 for the third and each subsequent offence. Each day shall constitute a separate offense.”
The fines previously were $50 for a first offense; $100 for a second offense; $200 for third and subsequent offenses.

The increase came about after the council had a discussion at the May 8 council meeting to address crime and safety concerns within the city, which included but were not limited to instances resulting from individuals trespassing at Cosby Lake after the park closed.
The new fines for violations at Cosby Lake will go into effect immediately. A sign displaying the fines will be posted at Cosby Lake by the end of the month.
