Hewitt-Trussville Girls Lose In 7A Championship Game

The Huskies faced top-ranked Hoover in the Class 7A girls basketball finals Wednesday, and were unable to come away with the win.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball team was looking to capture a state title Wednesday against top-ranked Hoover, but the Bucs had other ideas, posting a 61-37 win.

Hoover pulled away from the Huskies in the second quarter and never looked back. The Bucs went on an 11-0 run and an 8-0 run to widen the gap in the third. After Hewitt-Trussville's star Amiya Payne fouled out of the game, the Bucs sealed the win, outscoring HTHS 28-6 in the fourth quarter.

Payne finished with 18 points.
