Man Dies In Center Point Shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A shooting in Center Point Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of another. The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on Haversham Circle.

Jefferson County Sgt. Joni Money said deputies had been called to the location earlier in the day, approximately 1:30 p.m., in regards to a man who had come to the location and threatened and assaulted a female resident.

Upon deputy’s arrival, the man had fled the scene. Deputies were searching for the man when a second call came in stating the man was back at the location and he had been shot by another man. The shooter had fled the scene before deputies arrived back at the location, Money said.

Deputies were able to determine an identification for the suspected shooter and requested that the Birmingham Police Department attempt to locate him at an address in the Norwood community. The man was taken into custody at that address by the Birmingham Police Department without incident, Money said.

The suspected shooter is currently being interviewed by investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, who will continue the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
