Working Towards A Hunger Free Alaska
Can you believe it’s almost 2021? November remained busy at Food Bank of Alaska, where our staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to put togegther one of our main distribution events of the year, Thanksgiving Blessing. This year, we saw record numbers - over 11,000 families at 11 sites across Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley were provided a turkey and groceries for the holiday meal. We also sent turkeys out to several of our rural partners including Tyonek.

For thousands of our neighbors, this holiday will feel very different with many left wondering where their next meal will come from. Food insecurity has increased drastically across our state, where 1 in 6 Alaskans are now food insecure and 52,000 children can't count on their next meal.
Last week, we launched our Holiday Campaign with a goal to raise $750,000 in December from individuals and businesses across Alaska. On the first day of the campaign, Wells Fargo surprised us with a lead gift of $31,000! This gift was made through their Many hearts. One Community. effort and celebrates the commitment of so many in our country who have supported their neighbors in need.
