SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – The San Diego region's already vibrant dining scene is adding several new restaurants to the mix -- all varied with such cuisines as seafood specialties, New Orleans-inspired dishes, modern Italian fare and an exotic, full-service butcher shop and eatery.

Louisiana Purchase - North Park

  • 2305 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92104

Described as "an intimate, cocktail restaurant," Louisiana Purchase is holding its "soft opening" this week with a grand, Fat Thursday party planned March 21. Diners cravin' Cajun will appreciate the eatery's New Orleans charm and character, plus a menu featuring such dishes as savory Alligator Cheesecake, Andouille Fried Red Beans and Rice with Chipotle Mousse and Fried Redfish with Crawfish Etouffee Sauce.

Ways & Means Oyster House - La Jolla and Del Mar

  • La Jolla: 1251 Prospect Street, La Jolla, CA, 92037

This seafood venue is opening two locations in San Diego County: in downtown La Jolla this month at the former site of Alfonso's; and also at One Paseo in Del Mar in April.

Signature dishes include Ways & Means Oysters, served with a champagne mignonette and lemon to enhance the ocean-fresh flavors and a nationally-recognized Top-10 Lobster Roll, stuffed with Maine lobster and mango coleslaw, drizzled with aioli, on a brioche bun.

The Butchery - Del Mar

Launched in Costa Mesa in 2009 as a butcher shop, The Butchery has evolved into a popular, full-service deli-plus known for its high-quality meats, artisan cheeses, craft beers and wines. Its fourth location at One Paseo in Del Mar is slated to open this month.

This first San Diego location will offer such specialty meats as dry-aged beef and wagyu, exotics like bison and venison, along with locally-made sausages, ground beef prepared in-house, a seafood case, a full deli case with charcuterie and a wide variety of cheeses.

The One Paseo location will boast an expanded deli and seating area that will feature dishes with menu offerings sold in the store's retail area.

Herb & Sea - Encinitas

Coming soon to the Art Deco-style building on D Street is an upscale dining spot, Herb & Sea, which will offer a "social dining" concept -- a menu based around shareable items.

With a nautical theme and focus on local seafood, this is the latest project from chef Brian Malarkey and his team, the ones behind the popular, local restaurants Farmer & The Seahorse, greenACREs and Herb & Wood.

Blade 1936 - Oceanside

With a nod to North County's former newspaper, The Blade-Tribune, Blade 1936, a modern Italian eatery, is expected to open this spring at the original news building. Historical exterior with a modern interior!

Menu items will draw from locally sourced and imported Italian ingredients, with such featured items as house-made, Napoli-style, wood-fired pizzas, crafted semolina pastas, innovative desserts, cocktails, Italian bottled beer, wines, and local and international beers on tap.

Morning Glory - Little Italy

From the Born & Raised team comes a new brunch-focused spot, Morning Glory, planned for Little Italy.

The eatery will occupy a 4,000-square-foot perch overlooking India Street on the second story of a building surrounding Piazza della Famiglia.

The restaurant will feature a pastry bar, custom cocktail carts and coffee bar and more. The team behind the concept is culinary director Jason McLeod and beverage director Anthony Schmidt.
