The call for art sets an Aug. 6 deadline for artists to submit proposals to be considered by the City of Del Mar’s Arts Advisory Committee. The work would be installed in September, ahead of the Breeders’ Cup, which is expected to draw large crowds when it returns to Del Mar in November.
In June, the City Council approved the Del Mar Foundation’s application to install concrete fixtures to display sculptures at four locations on Camino Del Mar and one on 15th Street.

The temporary outdoor sculpture program is being coordinated by the Arts Advisory Committee in cooperation with the Del Mar Foundation, which is underwriting the costs. The program envisions an art walk map to identify the temporary sculptures and other art pieces on permanent display in the City.
In addition to publishing the call for art, the Foundation has retained a professional to identify and locate potential pieces.
Sculptures would remain on display for up to 23 months.
