Blocked Sewer Line Causes 1,000-Gallon Spill

Signs have been posted for Torrey Pines State Beach at Soledad Creek.

Blockage in a sewer line caused 1,000 gallons of sewage to spill into storm drains leading to Carmel Valley Creek and Soledad Creek late Sunday morning, according to county officials.

The spill began around 11:50 a.m. and lasted about 40 minutes, when crews from the city’s wastewater department were able to clear the blockage.

Signs warning of sewage contamination were posted 300 feet north and south of the Soledad Creek outfall on Torrey Pines State Beach and will remain until tests confirm the water is safe for recreational use.
