City Of Del Mar: SANDAG Presents Train Tunnel Analysis

San Diego Association of Governments officials on May 3 presented revised alternatives for moving the railway off of the fragile ocean bluffs and into tunnels beneath Del Mar.The presentation to the City Council included four alternative alignments. One of them would run beneath Camino del Mar. Two others would travel beneath residential neighborhoods and portions of Crest Canyon and the Torrey Pines State Reserve Extension. A fourth alignment would follow San Dieguito Drive and Interstate 5.An 11-point comparative analysis ranks one of two so-called Crest Canyon alignments as the top point-getter. The Del Mar Tunnel Alternatives Analysis is expected to be completed this summer.The analysis is part of a larger study examining how to improve the movement of people and goods on the railway between San Diego and San Luis Obispo.
