SDRVC Awarded $8K Grant From REI For Del Mar Multi-Sensory Trail
Funds will aid San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy's plans to enhance visitors' hikes with placards and "feel" & "smell" nature panels.

DEL MAR, CA — The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy received an $8,225 grant from REI to support enhancements planned for a Multi-Sensory Trail at River Path Del Mar, officials with the nature and conservation agency announced this week.
Improvements will "activate the senses and enhance the experience of visitors of all ages and abilities,” said Trish Boaz, SDRVC executive director.
Funds from recreational retailer REI will go toward adding interpretive signage along the existing path, which runs the south shore of the San Dieguito River and Lagoon between Jimmy Durante Boulevard and the Grand Avenue overlook.

Plans also include installing tactile panels where strollers can stop and feel textures of leaves, bark and shells, and perches where visitors can stop and smell the estuary and pungent plants, the organization said.
To date, capital campaigns with Target and SDG&E have raised more than $9,000, and SDRVC expects to receive additional funding from both companies, according to officials.

"Increasing access to outdoor recreation is the driving force behind the $30,000 project and a priority for the conservancy and the City of Del Mar," Boaz said.
Along with SDRVC’s aims to protect the San Dieguito River Valley and educate the public, the group also is intent on completing the planned 70-mile Coast-to-Crest Trail that will connect Volcan Mountain near Julian to North Beach in Del Mar. Read more on the agency here.
