Sarah Cho of Torrey Pines, the state individual champion last year, shot 2-over 76 to take third behind Luo, who shot an even-par 74 to beat Esther Lee of Los Alamitos by a single stroke at Red Hill Country Club in Rancho Cucamonga.

Torrey Pines coach Chris Drake was quoted as saying of Luo: “She works hard on her game. She works hard for every shot. And she’s been playing through pain for the last two years, you know. Every step she takes, every swing she takes caused her pain. And for her to go out and do this, this year, win this ... just is really a testament to her fortitude and her hard work and her character.”
