Encinitas, CA - The City of Encinitas recently received accolades from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) for encouraging employees to choose greener modes of transportation for their daily commutes. The Gold Award was given to the City at SANDAG's annual Diamond Awards event held at the San Diego Central Library. The awards reception honored more than 130 employers throughout San Diego County for actively participating in SANDAG's iCommute program, which is aimed at reducing traffic and greenhouse gas emissions.

"The City continues to serve as a model for residents and business owners locally to look for ways to reduce their carbon footprint," said Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear. "This award allows us to shine a light on our collective efforts to reach the City's Climate Action Plan goals."
The City earned the Gold Award by promoting alternatives to driving alone to its employees, providing showers and bike racks, and actively participating in iCommute events like the annual Bike to Work Day. This event also served as the official kickoff for SANDAG's annual Rideshare Week, which runs from September 30th - October 4th.
