Encinitas Asian Eatery Expanding Into Hillcrest

The new location will have an expanded beer, sake and cocktail menu, and will stay open later to signify a more adult, social scene.

Encinitas's East Village Asian Diner, a local restaurant featuring a variety of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai-inspired dishes, has announced that it is expanding into a second location in the Hillcrest neighborhood of San Diego.

According to San Diego Eater,  the new location will look much like the original, with metal decor, and industrial-style white brick walls. The robot theme on signs and menus will continue as well.

However, the Hillcrest locale, which will occupy the space vacated by Pink Noodle on 4th Avenue, will differ from its counterpart in one major way.

The selection of alcoholic beverage options will be "significantly larger," owner Daniel Bohlen told the website.

"We will be open much later as well, but the exact hours are still to be determined," he said. The Encinitas location usually closes at 10 p.m.

Bohlen said he chose Hillcrest to expand because he's "always wanted to open a spot in Hillcrest ever since moving to San Diego seven years ago. I love the neighborhood city feel," he said.

It's expected that the Hillcrest location will open in early September.
