Below are some steps residents can take to help prepare for the storm:
- Listen to local radio and TV stations for the latest information and updates. Stay informed about weather conditions and listen to the advice of local officials.
- Check your emergency kit and replenish any items missing or in short supply. Keep it nearby.
- Check the gutters and storm drains on your property to be sure they are clear of leaves and debris.
- Stay off the roads if possible. If you have to drive, check your windshield wipers and replace them if necessary, before the storm.
- Turn around, don’t drown. If driving on a flooded road, turn around and go another way. If you are caught on a flooded road and waters are rising rapidly around you, get out of the car quickly and move to higher ground. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of moving water.
- Be especially cautious at night when it’s harder to see roads, debris, and flood danger.
