Fifty-Eight Encinitas Residents Run Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Among Encinitas residents Kyle Martin, 34, was the highest male finisher, running the marathon in 2:53:51, good for 27th overall. The highest female finisher was Anna Toney, 34. She finished with a time of 3:45:20.

Almost 25,000 people ran, walked or wheeled the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Sunday on the 26-mile course that weaved its way throughout San Diego. About 7,000 people competed in the marathon. 

Fifty-eight people from Encinitas ran in the marathon, with 148 people competing in the half marathon. 

Among Encinitas residents Kyle Martin, 34, was the highest male finisher, running the marathon in 2:53:51, good for 27th overall. The highest female finisher was Anna Toney, 34. She finished with a time of 3:45:20.

In the half marathon, the fastest male finisher was Fernando Bianco, 34, and the highest female finisher was Jillian Pillsbury, 46.

The youngest Carlsbad resident to run the marathon were Elizabeth Chapman and Jake Bert, both 18. The oldest runner was Luis Benavides, 59. 

The top overall finisher in the marathon was Simon Njoroge, 32, from Kenya. He ran the race in 2:15:00 and had a blistering pace of 5:09. The top female marathon runner was Natalia Sergeeva, 28, from Russia, who ran in 2:35:05 with a 5:55 pace. 

History was made in the half marathon, as Bernard Koech, a 25-year-old Kenyan, finished the race in 58 minutes, 41 seconds. His pace of 4:29 per mile is the fastest half marathon ever run in the United States.
