The MiraCosta College Kruglak Art Gallery presents “Praxis May Vary,” an exhibition that displays art by seventeen rising artists from MiraCosta College. The works are created by students in MiraCosta’s Professional Portfolio studio art class, a capstone course with an emphasis on producing exhibition-ready artworks and developing professional quality portfolios. The exhibition is curated, designed, installed, and publicized by the college’s Museum Studies students.

This exhibition focuses on a variety of methods of art making related through the idea of praxis. Praxis can be defined as the “exercise or practice of an art, science, or skill.” As the exhibit’s title suggests, these practices vary from artist to artist.

“Praxis May Vary” features small- and large-scale works in a range of forms including painting, performance, glass blowing, sculpture, photography, and others. Each artist in the exhibition approaches their work differently; some are spontaneous and others are methodical. Emphasis is placed on the process of creating the work as well as on the finished product. Thematically, this exhibition centers around the versatile, free nature of creation. The works reflect ideas about cultural diversity, self-realization, family, and philosophical concepts. “The convergence of these fresh, new artists gives the show a unique energy. The balance of everyone’s talent is dynamic, yet transformative,” remarks one of the curators.
