'Paw-Micon' Hopes to Unite Adoptable Pets with Superhero Owners
The costumed critter event offers a furry alternative to the nearby Comic-Con.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center recently made the following announcement:
Comic book enthusiasts wait all year for Comic-Con International – an annual four-day festival held at the San Diego Convention Center.
Some fanatics, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite action-adventure stars, even pay tribute by dressing up in full superhero regalia.

Similarly, the adoptables at Helen Woodward Animal Center wait a lifetime to meet their superheroes – individuals with one mission: to rescue an orphaned pet.
With this in mind, the dogs and cats at Helen Woodward Animal Center will be staging their very own "PAW-MICON Convention" on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Styled in comic strip fashion and brought to life in comic book photos, the lovable pets hope to gain fans and find adopters “pawing” at the Center doors for a chance to meet this animated cast of characters.
The PAW-MICON Adoption Promotion will include the following benefits of adopting on July 20:
- The first 20 adopting families receive a special PAW-MICON Gift Bag with special theme prizes
- Framed photos of orphan pets dressed up as characters such as The Paw-nisher, Cat-ain America, Lex Luth-Purr and Woof-erine will be given away with adoption of that specific pet
- EXTRA! EXTRA! Adopters are invited to take a photo with their new pet in front of the Superhero Newspaper Headline Adoption Wall
- Post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest using the #PAWMICON hashtag and Helen Woodward Animal Center will share all of our Adopting Superheroes of the Day
- Comic Book decoration will cover the Adoption Lobby
- Adoption Staff will be dressed as their favorite Superheroes
- Baskin Robbins Solana Beach will provide Superhero Samplers between noon – 2 p.m.
All PAW-micon efforts are being made with one sole purpose – to draw the attention of potential adopters inspired to perform a superhero action of their own and provide a lucky pet with a forever home.
If over 130,000 people will line up for the excitement of seeing a few comic-book characters, the Helen Woodward Animal Center adoptables can certainly exceed that excitement with untold years of fun and adventure.
