Tony Hawk, Others Skating, Biking For Cancer in San Diego

One of the premier action sports events in the country, Clash at Clairemont brings together top action sports stars to help crush cancer.

SAN DIEGO – Clash at Clairemont IX, one of the premier action sports events in the country, is happening in America’s Finest City on June 13. Thousands of San Diegans will once again join forces with a multitude of top professional skateboarders and BMX riders to support the fight against cancer.

The family-friendly Clash at Clairemont IX takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Saturday, June 13, at the Mission Valley YMCA’s Krause Family Skate Park in San Diego (3401 Clairemont Drive, San Diego, CA 92117). All proceeds benefit Grind For Life, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with cancer, as well as the Mission Valley YMCA.

Scheduled to appear in vert ramp, bowl and street sessions are skateboarders Tony Hawk, Andy Macdonald, Bucky Lasek, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Elliot Sloan, Steve Caballero, Tom Schaar, Manny Santiago, Jimmy Wilkins, Jordan Hoffart, Alex Sorgente, Mitchie Brusco and tons more. Many are coming straight from last week’s X Games, where Gagnon won gold in Skateboard Vert and Sloan took gold in Skateboard Vert Best Trick.

New this year to Clash at Clairemont is the addition of the Monster Army Recon Tour, a regional BMX contest series that discovers, supports and helps to progress the best up-and-coming athletes in the sport. The tour has expanded to seven amateur and four professional events. Clash at Clairemont IX will host the first PRO/AM event of the series with $15,000 on the line.

On the BMX side, riders slated to be in attendance include Dennis Enarson, Simon Tabron, Steve McCann, Pat Casey, Ben Wallace, Kevin Peraza and Vince Byron, to name a few. Byron won an X Games gold medal in BMX Vert last week in Austin, Texas, with Tabron picking up the bronze. Enarson won silver in BMX Park.

Aside from watching their favorite skaters and riders shred, attendees can enjoy a huge vendor village filled with interactive booths and food options, along with an autograph session and giveaways.

Clash at Clairemont IX also features live music on the 91X stage. Headlining this year is legendary skate punk band JFA. Also in the lineup is E V Kain as well as the Frigidairs.

The event is open to the public for a minimum $10 donation at the door, with children six and under admitted free.

For the first time ever, Clash at Clairemont will be broadcast live via webcast at clashatclairemont.com.
