World's Biggest All-Female Skateboarding Event Set for Saturday in Encinitas

EXPOSURE takes place on Saturday, November 8th, from 9-5 at the Ecke Family YMCA. The world's top female skaters will be competing.

ENCINITAS, Calif. The best female skateboarders in the world will be in San Diego this week as EXPOSURE: A Women’s Benefit Event returns with the mission of promoting and progressing women’s skating as well as raising awareness for domestic violence.

The biggest all-female skateboarding competition in the world, EXPOSURE 2014 takes place at the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA in Encinitas, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is FREE for spectators.

EXPOSURE 2014 is the largest in the three-year history of the event, boasting a record number of competitors and sponsors. Professional and amateur skaters will vie for podium spots in the Urban Remedy Bowl Bash and the PTA Vert Jam.

The international field features riders from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. U.S. states represented include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin.

Among the professionals confirmed to compete are standouts Lizzie Armanto, Allysha Bergado, Julz Lynn and Gaby Ponce. Armanto is a two-time Pro Vert winner at EXPOSURE and will be gunning for a three-peat Saturday. Bergado is the reigning EXPOSURE Pro Bowl champion.

“The most progression I have seen in modern day female skateboarding has consistently occurred at EXPOSURE,” said Ponce, a gold medal winner at both the X Games and Dew Tour.

EXPOSURE provides female skateboarders with an avenue to pursue their passions and succeed in the sport.

“I was able to go to EXPOSURE last year for the first time,” said women’s action sports rock star Lyn-z Adams Hawkins Pastrana. “It was so cool for me to see how many young girls are coming up in the skate world and know that things like this event are what will secure a future for my daughter if she chooses to skate like me! It’s a beautiful thing to see girls pushing the sport.”

In addition to watching the best skaters on the planet shred the bowl and halfpipe, attendees can participate in free all-ages/abilities Learn-to-Skate with XS and Sambazon Yoga clinics. EXPOSURE also features a vendor village, an autograph signing session, opportunity drawings and a silent auction.

We are super excited to announce that legendary skater Steve Caballero will be in the house celebrating his 50th birthday. “Cabash,” a best frontside invert contest judged by Caballero himself, will be held in his honor. If you’re up for the challenge, put your hand on the coping, style it out and you may win a prize from the master.

Be there to collect autographs from Caballero and other pros like Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Andy Macdonald.

Mike McGill, inventor of the McTwist, has committed to judging this year along with Aaron Astorga, Adrian Demain and Jean Rusen. As always, Dave Duncan will be calling all of the action and hyping up the crowd on the mike.

New this year, EXPOSURE will collaborate with Tony Hawk’s RIDE Channel to produce a video recap of the event.

EXPOSURE is once again partnering with Carol’s House, a shelter for survivors of domestic violence run by Community Resource Center in Encinitas. Carol’s House provides residents with comprehensive social services to facilitate transition to healthier, happier and safer lives. EXPOSURE donates a portion of its proceeds to Carol’s House while helping raise awareness for an issue that impacts everyone, not just women.

“With a large gap in government funding for domestic violence programs in San Diego this year, we couldn’t be more appreciative and thankful for the EXPOSURE event,” said Paul B. Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of Community Resource Center. “Our Carol’s House program and comprehensive domestic services continue to change the lives of those who have suffered abuse. Because of community members and events like EXPOSURE, we receive the critical support we need to continue our mission.”

Please visit EXPOSUREskate.org to register for the clinics, make a donation or check out a full list of competitors.

EXPOSURE recognizes and thanks its major 2014 sponsors: True Nature Healing Arts, Camp Tanuga, Neal Mims Skate Academy, Planes, Trains + Automobiles, Urban Remedy, Bronze Buffalo Foundation, MC Construction Management, Inc., Sambazon, United States Air Force, Vox and XS Helmets.
