40 Cent Burgers To Celebrate Mel's Drive-In's Grand Re-Opening
The legendary Sunset Boulevard eatery will welcome back ravenous fans by turning back the clocks to 1947.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Mel's Drive In is returning to Sunset Boulevard, and they've got a retro deal package to make the day a little more exciting. From 12-4 p.m., the famous drive-in will offer 40 cent burgers, harkening back to their original price when Mel's first opened in the 1940s.
"In honor of reopening we will be going back to our original 1947 burger price of 40 cents!" the restaurant wrote in a post announcing the news. "We have been putting smiles on people faces for over 73 years and we can’t wait to continue doing so!"
The Sunset Boulevard was temporarily closed in January — along with Mel's Santa Monica location — while outdoor dining was suspended across Los Angeles. The Sherman Oaks location has remained open.

Like many in the restaurant industry this has been an absolute insane time for us," owner Colton Weiss wrote in January while announcing the restaurant would soon return. "In our whole 73 year history this time during covid has been the most challenging! Many people don’t know but we are a family business tried and true with my Grandfather Mel Weiss starting Mel’s as the first carhop restaurant in San Francisco. I run Mel’s with my Dad Steven, my brother Chasen and our partner Gabriel."
Mel's also announced that indoor dining would return at their San Francisco location beginning March 3rd.
