Sunset Boulevard Hit-And-Run Driver Flags Down LAPD, Then Flees

Authorities are looking for the driver of a white 2018 Audi S5 who struck a pedestrian lying in the road on Sunset Boulevard.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The driver of an Audi S5, who ran over a pedestrian lying in the road on Sunset Boulevard, flagged down police for aid but then fled the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Tuesday.

Now, authorities are asking anyone with information about the fatal hit-and-run to come forward. The hit-and-run occurred Monday at about 8:45 p.m. According to investigators, a man was driving a white 2018 Audi S5 westbound on Sunset Boulevard approaching North McCadden Place when his car struck the pedestrian, "who was laying on the roadway."

The driver continued west on Sunset Boulevard, made a U-turn. and got out of the car. He flagged down an LAPD officer and directed the officer to the pedestrian before getting back in his car and fleeing eastbound on Sunset, police said.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. Authorities could not say why the person was lying in the roadway prior to the accident. The victim's name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

An investigation into the death was ongoing, and the LAPD reported "alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in this crash."
