“Edge of Tomorrow” — Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt; directed by Doug Liman

Have you ever heard of the popular catchy phrase, “Live. Die. Repeat.”? If not, get ready to discover its origins from the very engaging and entertaining “Edge of Tomorrow.” The 2014 sci-fi action film stars Tom Cruise as Maj. William Cage, an inexperienced military officer suddenly thrust into a time loop, where he relives the same brutal combat over again every time he dies. Nevertheless, our flawed hero soon becomes a formidable soldier in the face of an alien invasion, fighting alongside fellow warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt).

Hailed as the best film in the “Harry Potter” series, the third installment reunites the trio of best friends — Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) — at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their third year of study. This time around, the threesome will tackle the mystery surrounding Sirius Black (Gary Oldman), a notorious escaped convict who has set his sights on the young titular wizard. But wait! There’s also Hermione’s Time-Turner, a time machine that can turn back time to aid the best pals in their attempt to change the course of history.

“Déjà Vu” — Denzel Washington, Paula Patton; directed by Tony Scott

Tony Scott’s 2006 crime thriller opens with an awfully entrancing scene of a New Orleans passenger ferry going up in flames, setting a subdued tone for the entire narrative. However, it’s also a key to what lies ahead. Denzel Washington portrays a federal agent brought in to investigate the explosion. Is it a terrorist attack? Regardless, he must travel back in time in order to thwart the tragic incident and save an alluring woman (Paula Patton) in the process.

“Predestination” — Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook; directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig

In “Predestination,” the Spierig brothers deftly deliver a strange-yet-affecting time-travel saga of love, fate and identity. At the center of the story is a time-traveling agent (Ethan Hawke) who receives his final case. His mission? He must now capture an elusive criminal who has managed to evade him over the years. However, there’s more to it than meets the eye, as the chase becomes one mind-boggling causal loop of intriguing events.

“About Time” — Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams; directed by Richard Curtis

What if you were a young man and discovered that you could time travel to make your future life better? That’s exactly the premise of “About Time” — with some caveats, of course. Domhnall Gleeson stars as Tim Lake, who, at the age of 21, discovers that men in his immediate family have the secret ability to travel back in time. And so begins his well-planned time travels to pursue the love of his life, Mary (Rachel McAdams). With each journey, Tim learns the good and the bad of his newfound gift.

“Interstellar” — Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain; directed by Christopher Nolan

Intricate but compelling to the core, Christopher Nolan’s grand cinematic opus follows a group of space explorers in search of a new habitable planet for mankind in the face of Earth’s imminent extinction. Among them is former NASA pilot Joseph Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a widower who travels back in time from outer space to connect with his daughter, a future scientist (Jessica Chastain) who ultimately makes humanity’s exodus and survival a reality.

“Hot Tub Time Machine” — John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke; directed by Steve Pink

Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane with this highly infectious 2010 comedy featuring four best pals (John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke and Rob Corddry) haphazardly transported back to 1986 in a time-traveling hot tub time machine. Wistful references to 1980s pop culture will surely melt your hearts as the foursome tries to rewrite their past to alter their lethargic, boring future.

“Back to the Future” — Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson; directed by Robert Zemeckis

One of the most popular time travel movies in American cinema, “Back to the Future” follows the story of 17-year-old Marty McFly, a high school student fortuitously zapped back 30 years into the bygone era of the 1950s in a time traveling DeLorean. What will the 1980s kid do now, considering Marty has already become his future mother’s (Lea Thompson) object of affection? The 1985 box-office hit spawned two sequels: “Back to the Future Part II” (1989) and “Back to the Future Part III” (1990).

“Groundhog Day” — Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell; directed by Harold Ramis

In this fantasy comedy, Bill Murray plays a self-centered TV weatherman who gets stranded in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 2, 1992, due to a snowstorm while covering the annual Groundhog Day event. Meanwhile, he is caught in a time loop sequence, seemingly living the same day over again when he wakes up the next morning. Can love and romance break the maddening déjà vu?
