'Deadpool 2' Review: A Raunchy, Worthy Sequel
"Deadpool 2" offers all the raunch, hilarity and wicked violence, fans expect from Marvel's most irreverent superhero.
Seething with uproarious and adulterated fun, Deadpool is back, and, once again, Marvel’s indestructible mercenary is unapologetically wired with bold attitude, bawdy jokes, and wicked violence. Nevertheless, the latest entry’s overall tone is jaunty and breezy.
Rest assured: no spoilers in this review! Although we can tell you a whole lot more about the action-filled dark plot, we’d rather not. It’s best to keep it mostly under wraps for your all-around frills and thrills.
In director David Leitch’s sequel, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), Deadpool’s alter ego, has made peace with his tormenting facial scars, spending his days fighting villains and his nights romancing Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), the love of his life. But then Deadpool becomes depressed, reluctantly joining X-men as a trainee.

Unexpectedly, he acquires a new taste for adventure, thanks to our villain Cable (Josh Brolin), a futuristic time-traveling warrior set on changing the course of history. Using his characteristic irreverence, Deadpool recruits a team of unlikely cohorts of mutants and jacks of all trades to thwart Cable’s advances. Among them are Domino (Zazie Beetz), the unique combatant whose superpower is being exceptionally lucky, and Peter, who is just a regular powerless dude.
Before long, Deadpool takes his entire super-team out on a test run, and they jump out of a plane. The result? Well, it’s hilarious, wacky and unexpected— like the entire movie itself.

Unlike its predecessor, “Deadpool 2” has a beating heart as portrayed in Deadpool’s relationship with Russel/Firefist (Julian Dennison), a young mutant with serious anger-management issues and flaming fists. Both actors are fascinating to watch as they exchange sharp one-liners and zingers.
As for the action sequences in the movie, they are brisk and fluid, bolstered by a toe-tapping soundtrack featuring the likes of Cher, Air Supply, Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar, and A-Ha.
Last but not the least, Reynolds commands the screen with unbridled energy. His raunchy superhero is irresistible, infuriating, and lovable at the same time.
And so— you’re asking if this second installment is better than the original? Absolutely!
Make sure to stick around for the mid-credits scene!
“Deadpool 2” hits theaters on Friday, May 18.
