East Hollywood Church Invites Community To Fun Family Day Each Weekend

Every Sunday the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles hosts a Fun Family Day, open to the entire community. They offer fun-filled activities for the whole family at no cost. An additional event is planned for Memorial Day.

“We want to offer family-oriented activities that engage families. They can forget about the day-to-day struggles of life for a bit.”, explains Courtney Gahwiler, the Public Relations Director. ”Our church is very family-oriented and totally drug-free. We want to share that life with our neighbors.”

On Monday May 27th, from 1 to 6, a spectacular day of activities is planned including live music, face painting and food trucks. Courtney says, “We will have pie eating contests, donut eating contests, an outdoor giant bowling lane & a massive inflatable obstacle course that will give everyone an adrenaline rush! We will offer a complementary BBQ for Veterans.”

The Sunday before Memorial Day 1pm to 5pm will also commemorate the holiday by inviting the community to a BBQ. There will be a bouncy house, free painting lessons from a professional local artist, live music, bean bag toss, arts & crafts and more.

The Easter Festival for the community was a big hit with over one thousand people in attendance. The Easter Bunny visited with the kids all day, several massive Easter egg hunts were held, plus food trucks, bouncy house, an inflatable obstacle course, face painting, balloon twisting and more.

The Cinco De Mayo festival offered dancing to the two different bands that performed -- a 19-man Mexican group playing Banda and a five-piece Mariachi band. There were painting lessons for the kids given by a pro artist plus face painting, balloon twisting, bouncy house, donut eating contests and several piñatas.

A special Mobile Drug Education Theater from the Foundation for a Drug-Free World and Strike Out Against Drugs played a special part in the event. The mobile theater offered effective drug education to the youth and families who attended, with educational videos and booklets, helping to guide kids to live drug-free lives.

Mother’s Day activities were fun for the whole family and included roses that were passed out to all kids to give their moms.

One guest said, "Thank you so much for holding these events. My kids want to come back every single week and said that their Easter was the best ever. There's no one else in this city who's holding safe, family-friendly events, that are free, every single week. So we will definitely be back. Thank you!"

The events take place in the Sunset parking lot of the Church of Scientology near Vermont Ave at 4810 West Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles 90027. More information can be gotten at 323.953.3206, cgahwiler@scientology-losangeles.org or on Facebook @churchofscientologylosangeles.
