Homelessness And The Environment At The Forefront This Earth Day

SELAH will host a discussion focused on the L.A. River, and the intersection between homelessness and environmental issues.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Earth Day is around the corner, and the health of the planet will be at the forefront of the discussion. SELAH, a coalition of neighborhood councils representing Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Atwater Village and Hollywood, will host a discussion titled "The LA River: The Intersection between Homelessness & the Environment.”

The free event will include a live podcast recording, followed by a Q&A with the audience for those with questions. The event will start at 7 p.m. Thursday night. and will be available a week after the event as an edited podcast.

The podcast will be part of their ongoing "Small Revolutions" Zoom series, which examines the struggle for civil rights issues across Los Angeles. Thursday's episode will invite speakers from marginalized communities to offer a new perspective on the history and future of the Los Angeles River.

"Listen to a Gabrieleño chairman, a tribal biologist and one of our unhoused neighbors give you an unvarnished first-hand account of their unique struggles and experiences," SELAH said. "A representative from the Friends of the Los Angeles River will be there to talk about possible changes planned for the river and reveal some surprising facts about one of LA's most famous waterways."
