HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Los Angeles Zoo opened their doors once again on Monday, welcoming back animal lovers across the city. The Griffith Park landmark had been closed since December 7 following the return of the regional Stay at Home order.

The zoo will enforce several safety measures to keep attendees safe, such as an online reservation system with limited capacity, enhanced cleaning, and numerous hand sanitizer stations. Indoor exhibits, in-person presentations and indoor dining will remain closed, along with high touch areas like the Papiano Playpark, and conservation carousel.

The Los Angeles Zoo is officially open," Zoo officials wrote in a social media post. "For the safety of guests, staff, and animals, we will continue to offer a modified experience, and advance, timed-entry reservations are required for all."

Last year, the zoo was forced to close on March 13, as the first wave of coronavirus-related closures hit the region. The zoo would temporarily reopen on August 26, with similar distancing requirements.

The grounds typically welcome over 1.8 million guests a year, according to the zoo. Over 1,400 animals across 270 species call the location home.
