Man Charged In South Pasadena Robbery Stabbing

A 21-year-old Compton man was arrested, and police are looking for another man in a violent attack in an attempted jewelry store robbery.

ALHAMBRA, CA — One of two men accused of trying to rob the owner of a South Pasadena jewelry store in a crime caught on surveillance video was charged Thursday with attempted robbery.

Omar Tariq Bradley, 21, of Compton, pleaded not guilty in connection with the alleged attack last Friday on Jean Boujekian.

The charge includes an allegation that he used a deadly or dangerous weapon -- brass knuckles, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Security video showed two men at Vana Watch and Jewelry, 1401 Mission St., milling about the store for about five minutes before one of them allegedly tried to stab the store's proprietor.

"I didn't feel comfortable so I came out from the back to the floor and my nephew was in the background and one of them pulled out a knife," the store's owner told ABC7.

The owner's nephew pulled out a gun and chased the suspects out of the store.

The suspects fled the location in a green Chevrolet Malibu that authorities said was spotted Tuesday in Compton.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies detained the car's driver and sole occupant, who was identified later as Bradley. He was subsequently arrested by South Pasadena police.

Bradley -- whose bail was set at $95,000 -- is due back in an Alhambra courtroom Jan. 3.

If convicted as charged, he could face up to four years in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
