Movie Review: 'Avengers: Endgame'
Get the spoiler-free scoop on the highly-anticipated Marvel finale film starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson.
"Avengers: Endgame" recently had its world premiere on Monday, April 22, in Hollywood.
After eleven years in the making, the three-phased Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) took its final bow with the highly-anticipated “Avengers: Endgame.” Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film is the grand finale to a 22-film superhero saga that began with 2008’s “Iron Man.” Over the course of the 11-year journey, MCU's labyrinthine mythology has introduced a plethora of mighty characters including Captain America, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.
“Endgame” also marks the conclusion to the “Avengers” film franchise that includes 2012's "The Avengers," 2015's "Age of Ultron" and 2018's "Infinity War." And with the new release, Marvel fans are already buzzing about the much-anticipated answers to last year’s cliff-hanger in “Infinity War” (Don’t worry, there are no spoilers in this review).

With an air of nostalgia, the three-hour extravaganza ties together the narratives of sprawling characters introduced in the previous MCU films. Cleverly crafted, "Endgame" opens with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man, who we again find front and center at the end of the film.

Following Thanos's defeat, the surviving superheroes are all depressed and grieving for their losses. Some of them are burning with anger and vengeance and others can’t fathom their defeat — especially one superhero in particular who has lost his hunky figure to a beer gut.

Suddenly, they come up with a way to travel back in time, attempting to undo Thanos’s mass destruction. But it will be a massive feat, as the group must obtain all six Infinity stones in various key places and times.
To do so, they will have to travel back to 2012 in New York City; 2013 in planet Asgard; 2014 in planet Morag; 2014 in planet Vormir; and 1970 in New Jersey. Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) have all survived the maelstrom. There will be sacrifices that our superheroes will have to face along the way, but it’s all done for love, camaraderie, family and friendships.
Will every superhero in MCU survive? We can’t really tell you, but rest assured that “Endgame” is an epic beauty to behold. It is humorous, clever and emotional to the core. You’ll laugh, cry and beg for more from this well-thought-out, high-octane superhero gem.
