Writer-director Stephen Basilone’s romantic comedy is a melancholic concoction of time travel, angst and spiritual mystery, centering on two 20-somethings who are searching for direction in their lives.

In the film, Finn Wittrock plays Bart, a struggling writer suffering from an emotional crisis brought upon by the recent death of his mother. And to make matters worse, his explosive breakup with his girlfriend further rubs salt in the wound. Luckily, he has wonderful friends — married couple Doug (Daman Wayans Jr.) and Rachel (Casey Wilson) — who give him shoulders to cry and lean on.

As the young man contemplates his road to personal recovery, a happenstance befalls Bart one night when he crosses paths with a charming young woman named Vienna (Zoë Chao) at a nearby theater. Over time, the two will become inseparable, exuding a whirlwind romance like a match made in heaven.

However, when the enigmatic Vienna finally reveals to Bart that she is from 30-plus years in the future, complications arise in their seemingly perfect relationship. Will the two star-crossed lovers find a way to remain together through the wrinkle in time?

See it. Simply put, Wittrock and Chao dazzle with their undeniable chemistry — though their lovey-dovey moments can feel mawkishly sentimental at times.

“Come True” — Julia Sarah Stone, Landon Liboiron, Skylar Radzion; directed by Anthony Scott Burns

Dreams and nightmares are front and center in writer-director Anthony Scott Burns’ illusory sci-fi thriller about a young woman struggling with disquieting slumbering visions.

Julia Sarah Stone stars as 18-year-old Sarah, a runaway teen who finds sleep a towering menace rather than a source of bliss in her life. Why? A terrifying shadowy male figure with glowing red eyes appears in her recurring dreams.

Soon, the teen participates in a sleep study to understand and possibly find a way to cure her sleep paralysis. What ensues is a series of unexplainable events, setting in motion Sarah’s propulsion to a sinister world of dreams, where reality blurs.

See/Stream it. Visually stylish, “Come True” takes audiences to a mesmerizing dreamscape.
