“Disobedience” — Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, directed by Sebastian Lelio

Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams star as two lost souls in Sebastian Lelio’s romance drama, based on Naomi Alderman’s acclaimed novel about transgression, love and empathy.

When Ronit (Weisz) receives word of her father’s death, she makes the painful decision of returning home to an Orthodox community she was exiled from years earlier because of her “disobedience” to their laws. Once back, she encounters her childhood sweetheart, Esti (McAdams), and as they face echoes of the past, the two rekindle their passion. However, will it last as they become torn between love, faith and sexuality?

See it. “Disobedience” is poignant and thought-provoking, further elevated by the leads’ powerful performances.
