Movies Out This Weekend: 'Blade Runner 2049,' The Mountain Between Us,' 'The Florida Project,' 'My Little Pony: The Movie'
Ryan Gosling takes on rebellious humanoids. Plus, will Kate Winslet and Idris Elba find love while stranded in the snowy wilderness?

Moviegoers in the mood for an action flick this weekend, you're in luck. In "Blade Runner 2049," Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford star in the thrilling sci-fi sequel to the 1982 original "Blade Runner." Kate Winslet and Idris Elba also bring the adventure in their film, "The Mountain Between Us," as they fight to survive in the snowy wilderness following a plane crash.
Touching upon a different type of survival is Sean Baker's film, "The Florida Project," which explores the issue of homelessness through the eyes of a 6-year-old girl.
Finally, kids and families can head out to see "My Little Pony: The Movie," which features the voice talents of Emily Blunt, Liev Schreiber and Uzo Aduba.

“Blade Runner 2049” — Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, directed by Denis Villeneuve
The sequel to the 1982 “Blade Runner” is a spectacle fit for even the most discerning sci-fi fans. Set 30 years after the events of the original neo-noir thriller, the saga stars Ryan Gosling as Officer K, a blade runner whose day-to-day job is to track and exterminate rebellious humanoids. Soon, he discovers a long-buried secret that could cause total mass destruction on earth. Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049” is a masterpiece, making it a MUST-SEE.

“The Mountain Between Us” — Kate Winslet, Idris Elba, directed by Hany Abu-Assad
Kate Winslet and Idris Elba star in this romance action film about two strangers brought together when their charter plane crashes. Stranded atop a snow-covered mountain, the two are forced to depend on each other to survive the harsh conditions of the wilderness. Despite its predictable third act, Hany Abu-Assad’s drama is palatable nevertheless.
See it. Simply put, Winslet and Elba are spellbinding.

“The Florida Project” — Willem Dafoe, Brooklynn Prince, directed by Sean Baker
The latest from Sean Baker, director of the award-winning “Tangerine,” explores the issue of homelessness as seen through the eyes of his child protagonist, 6-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince). Throughout the film, we learn about her day-to-day existence living with her 22-year-old mother (Bria Vinaite) in a cheap motel managed by Bobby (Willem Dafoe). Heartbreaking to the core, the piercing drama starkly explores the grim reality of abject poverty.
See it. “The Florida Project” will win your heart thanks to Baker’s genius storytelling, Dafoe’s Oscar-worthy performance and Prince’s refreshing presence.

“My Little Pony: The Movie” — Emily Blunt, Tara Strong, Liev Schreiber, directed by Jayson Thiessen
Fans of the animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic!” can now see their favorite pastel ponies on the big screen. In the movie version, the magical kingdom of Equestria is under attack by an evil force (Liev Schreiber), but luckily, heroine Princess Twilight (Tara Strong) escapes the invasion. Before long, she and her group of friends set off on an adventure to ask for help.
See it. This rousing movie will have you singing tunes of friendship and togetherness in no time.
