Reese Witherspoon stars as 40-year-old Alice, a wealthy woman who recently separated from her husband and has gone back home to Los Angeles with her two kids. As her story unfolds, she meets a suave twenty-something who might just be boyfriend material. Does this ring a cougar-boy-toy bell? Perhaps, but “Home Again” is really all about starting over. Despite its occasional silliness, the 90-minute rom-com is charming, lighthearted and comical.

See it. Witherspoon is simply captivating and engaging.

“It” — Bill Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher, directed by Andy Muschietti

Looking for some escapism with a capital T for terror? Well, look no further than “It,” a story about seven youngsters who band together to take on an evil clown in their New England suburb. At its core, this latest film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel is about coming of age in a malevolent world. Hauntingly nuanced, the movie is complemented by magnificent performances, sharp one-liners and visceral sentiments.

See it. This remake has that “IT” factor.

“Rebel in the Rye” — Zoey Deutch, Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Spacey, directed by Danny Strong

A biopic of J.D. Salinger (Nicholas Hoult), this movie explores the author’s heartbreaking relationship with socialite Oona O’Neill (Zoey Deutch), his experiences fighting in World War II and his writing process for his one and only published novel, “The Catcher in the Rye.” Disappointingly, the directorial debut of Danny Strong doesn’t delve deeply into Salinger’s psyche and his enigmatic personality.

Skip it. By the end, the screenplay feels incomplete.
