Oscars Announce Date For 2022 Ceremony
The awards show will be held one month later than originally planned due to the pandemic.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The 2022 Oscars will be held on March 27 at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. The ceremony will be held one month later than originally planned, with the Academy noting the year is "still impacted by the pandemic."
Nominations for the 94th Oscars will be announced on February 8, 2022. The Governors Awards will also return on January 15, 2022, after being cancelled this year due to coronavirus.
Although later than the award show's typical February date, the 2022 Oscars will be moved up a month from this year's April 25 date. The eligibility cutoff will return to the normal December 31 deadline, meaning filmmakers will only have 10 month window between March 1 and December 31, 2021, for their films to count.

Typically, movies released between January 1 and December 31 are eligible for the Academy Awards in the following calendar year. However, the eligibility deadline for the 2021 Oscars was delayed until February 28 due to coronavirus, forcing a constraint on this year's calendar.
Movies initially released through streaming services rather than in theaters will again be eligible for awards, a development from the April 25 ceremony that will remain in place.

Wednesday, the Academy announced it would limit 2021 membership growth to roughly half of its size in previous years, in order to "ensure the necessary infrastructure, staff resources and environment to support all Academy members."
“As we look to the future growth and goals of the Academy, we need to scale appropriately so we can continue to give the personal service our members have come to expect and appreciate,” Academy CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. “We remain focused on cultivating a membership body that reflects our diverse film community and the world around us.”
