Overturned Gravel Truck Causes 101 Freeway Closure Overnight

Overnight traffic was backed up for miles as the spilled gravel closed the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A big rig overturned on the southbound Hollywood (101) Freeway Friday morning, spilled gravel and diesel fuel on the freeway and prompted the brief closure of all lanes of the road and an offramp.

Officers responded to reports of an overturned truck at the Highland Avenue offramp about 12:20 a.m. and located a semi pulling two trailers, one of which was overturned and had dumped gravel and diesel fuel on the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All southbound lanes of the freeway were closed at 12:30 a.m. before the Nos. 1 and 2 lanes were reopened about 12:40 a.m. The Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway were reopened about 5:40 a.m., and the Highland Avenue offramp was reopened about a half hour afterward, the CHP said.
