The Standard, Hollywood To Close After 22 Years

The hotel said they will close indefinitely due to a significant lease increase.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Standard, Hollywood is now the latest victim of the coronavirus pandemic, after the hotel announced they will close indefinitely due to a significant lease increase. The hotel, which has been a Sunset Boulevard mainstay for the past 22 years, said the higher payments would make "operating the property impossible."

Alive with personality & personalities, and the backdrop of countless legendary tales, Hollywood was the birthplace of The Standard’s culture," The Standard said in a statement." It came to life through its timeless design, live music performances at Desert Nights, blue Astroturf pool scene, living art in ‘The Box,’ and the many late, hazy nights at our nightclub incarnations: Purple Lounge, Mmhmmm and Giorgio’s. While there are and will be more Standard hotels, there will never be another Standard, Hollywood. And though it is painful to say goodbye, we know that the community we inspired will live on.⁣⁣"

The Standard's lease is held by the Ferrado Group, a real estate investment firm based in Spain with a location in Newport Beach, the L.A. Times reported. According to the Times, the hotel unsuccessfully tried to renegotiate lease terms.
