“The Spy Who Dumped Me” — Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, directed by Susanna Fogel
Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon star as two best friends suddenly propelled into international espionage in Susanna Fogel’s spy comedy.
In the movie, Audrey (Kunis) and Morgan (McKinnon) discover that Audrey’s ex-beau Drew (Justin Theroux) is a CIA operative. With a group of lethal assassins on his trail, Drew desperately needs the women’s help to deliver a junk-store trophy to his contact in Vienna.
Armed only with their smarts and impulsivity, Audrey and Morgan embark on an international adventure across Europe. They must learn to navigate a world filled with deception and intrigue, as they battle a network of deadly assassins, calculating spies and top-secret operatives. Will the two 30-year-olds accomplish their mission? Can they trust anyone to help them?
See it. It’s light-hearted and entertaining, though it misses the mark on capitalizing on the leads’ star power.

“The Darkest Minds" — Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson
Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s first live-action film is based on Alexandra Bracken’s best-selling young-adult dystopian novel about friendship, survival and humanity.
The movie takes place in an oppressive near-distant future, after a mysterious virus has killed 98 percent of the world's child population. The surviving 2 percent have developed super-human powers, causing the terrified government to declare the children enemies of the state and place them in internment camps.
One of them is Ruby (Amandla Stenberg), a youth who manages to escape the authorities because of her ability to control one’s thoughts with her mind. As her journey unfolds, she partners up with a group of fellow escapees in the outside world, including telekinetic Liam (Harris Dickinson), electrokinetic Zu (Miya Cech) and all-knowing Chubs (Skylan Brooks). Will Ruby and her newfound friends find their way to safety, a rumored paradise beyond the government’s reach?
Skip it. If only the third act did not feel rushed and contrived, the dystopian YA movie would be most compelling in its allegory of social injustices.

“Christopher Robin” — Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, directed by Marc Forster
Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor), the young boy who once shared countless adventures with his stuffed animal friends in the Hundred-Acre Wood, is now all grown up working and living in mid-century London.
After Christopher cancels his plans for a family getaway, he finds himself reunited with Winnie the Pooh, and his old friends from the past. In the process, some important work papers go missing from his briefcase. Can his childhood pals Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet help their best friend save the company he works for from collapsing?
See it. The movie brings us enough smiles and warmth, if not memorable.
