Remember Harley Quinn, the self-proclaimed “Joker’s girl” from 2016’s antihero film, “Suicide Squad"? Well, Joker’s girlfriend is back with her own wild story, replete with her colorful pigtails and signature baseball bat.
In this movie spinoff, Margot Robbie reprises her role as Harley — who, through narration, informs audiences of her recent breakup with the Joker. Alas! She is free and emancipated from all romantic relationships — a reference to the full original title of the movie, “Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.”
Along the way, our antiheroine will forge an alliance with other birds in the flock — ninja-kicking Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), renegade cop Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), mysterious assassin Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and precocious light-fingered Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). Together, the five new-found friends will face off against the villainous Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor), Gotham City’s newest crime lord who has a predilection for slicing off the faces of his enemies.
See it. Robbie’s Harley Quinn is deliciously beguiling in her very own pursuit of a twisted happiness.
“Come to Daddy” — Elijah Wood, Stephen McHattie; directed by Ant Timpson
Ant Timpson’s feature directorial debut is a manic family thriller about an immature man in search of a father he barely knows.
That man-child is Norval (Elijah Wood), a Los Angeles resident who has been summoned to make his journey to the secluded home of his estranged dad (Stephen McHattie).
It will just be a matter of time before Norval and his long-absent father meet. And what a reunion it is for these two men, where audiences are treated to propulsive twists and turns. If you think you've figured out the next shoe to drop, think again.
See it. Wood is exceptionally good in this movie. Plus, the surprises will simply captivate you.
