What To Watch This Weekend: 'Greta' And 'Madea Family Funeral'
Tyler Perry plays a sassy grandmother in "A Madea Family Funeral," while Isabelle Huppert and Chloë Grace Moretz star in thriller "Greta."

This weekend, thrillers seem to be taking over the big screen. In "Greta," Isabelle Huppert and Chloë Grace Moretz star as two New Yorkers who strike up a close but sudden friendship over a missing handbag — and one of the women has dark secrets to hide.
Meanwhile, "Climax" stars Sofia Boutella as a choreographer who leads a troupe of dancers lost in psychedelic drug-induced mania.
Still, there is one comedy you can see this weekend, if that genre is more your speed. In "A Madea Family Funeral," Tyler Perry reprises his iconic role as grandma Madea who suddenly becomes a funeral coordinator.

“Greta” — Chloë Grace Moretz, Isabelle Huppert; directed by Neil Jordan
In Neil Jordan’s psychological thriller, Isabelle Huppert plays the titular role of a middle-aged widow, while Chloë Grace Moretz stars as Frances, a young New Yorker who misses her deceased mother and feels estranged from her newly married father.
One day, on the subway, Frances unwittingly discovers a missing handbag. Her roommate Erica (Maika Monroe) encourages Frances to keep it, but she decides to find the address of the owner, Greta (Huppert), and brings the handbag to her at her Brooklyn apartment.
Soon enough, the two women meet and strike up a friendship — but it will soon turn toxic. As their story unfolds, Greta's dark secrets come to light. Does she really live alone by herself?
See it. Huppert's stillness is hypnotic while Moretz's naïvety is beguiling. However, the movie's third act is less compelling than the first and second acts.

“Climax” — Sofia Boutella, Raomain Guillermic; directed by Gaspar Noe
In this drama-horror, a choreographer (Boutella) and a troupe of dancers gather in an isolated building to prepare for a performance. But what promises to be just a simple rehearsal erupts into chaos as they discover that their bowl of celebratory sangria is laced with a strong dose of LSD.
Traversing their journey from jubilation to turmoil, the French film projects each dancer’s most intimate desires, secrets and rivalries, setting in motion a psychedelic meltdown of violence and terror.
See it. The movie is maddeningly brilliant, but you have to be patient to appreciate it.
