What's New On Netflix: January 2021

January 2021 beams very bright in Netflix land as the popular streaming service celebrates the new year with a trove of intriguing and delightful movies and TV shows.

Centerpieces include a number of highly anticipated films. One is “Pieces of a Woman,” an absorbing drama starring Vanessa Kirby and Shia LaBeouf as a married couple struggling to pick up the pieces of their lives after a failed home birth. Another is “Outside the Wire,” an action sci-fi starring Anthony Mackie and Damson Idris as two military men tasked to locate a doomsday device.

Meanwhile, a re-imagining of the historic 1939 excavation of Sutton Hoo comes to life in “The Dig,” starring Carey Mulligan as the famed English landowner Edith Pretty alongside Ralph Fiennes as a local archaeologist leading the investigation of the mounds on her property.

New original series premiering this January include teen-fantasy “Fate: The Winx Saga,” crime-drama “Lupin,” and the Nicolas Cage-led “The History of Swear Words.” Plus, Netflix debuts the third season of “Karate Kid” reboot “Cobra Kai.”

Other films available for your streaming pleasure include “Sherlock Holmes,” “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “Superbad,” “Hook” and “Bonnie and Clyde.”
