Jack Shelver stars on "History Alive"

"History Alive," the popular lecture series sponsored by the Lemon Grove Historical Society, continues on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. when Lemon Grove's first city manager, Jack Shelver, returns to look back at the dawn of cityhood in 1977.

Personable and witty, Jack was there when "it all began" in a room over a store with a phone and a big challenge in front of him.

On his first day, the city clerk was at a meeting, the secretary was ill, the phone rang non stop and there was Jack minding the store. For the next 17 years, the adventures continued as Jack and the council shepherded the city through its first General Plan, the coming of the trolley, the start of redevelopment, the growth of parks and recreation and much more.

Don't miss this look back with a great raconteur.  Q & A and refreshments follow the presentation.  "History Alive" is free and suitable for ages 13 and over.  Call 619-460-4353 for more information.
