Jack Shelver stars on "History Alive"

"History Alive" the popular lecture series sponsored by the Lemon Grove Historical Society, continues with Jack Shelver, Lemon Grove's first city manager.  On Jack's first day on the job in 1977, city hall was a room over a store, the city clerk was away for the day, the secretary was out and the phone never stopped ringing.  So, Jack answered the stream of calls and got to know local residents PDQ.

Personable, warm, witty and super competent, Jack helped to shepherd Lemon Grove through its first General Plan, the start of redevelopment, the coming of the trolley and building of the trolley depot, the growth of parks and recreation, construction of the Senior Center and much more.  He remembers it all!  Be there for his amusing look back at the dawn of cityhood!

A graduate of SDSU (Political Science 1961) and National University (M.A. Public Administration), Jack was city manager in Imperial Beach and Del Mar before coming to Lemon Grove, where he lived with his family throughout his tenure.  He retired to Julian in 1994, where he serves in interim management roles, chairs the Community Planning Group and is president of the Fire Board.

Refreshments will follow the presentation, which is free and suitable for ages 13 and over.  For more information, call 619-460-4353.
