On Tap: Water Expert Joe Young

History Alive program features the systems operations manager of Helix Water District.

The History Alive speakers’ series kicks off its 2012 lineup with water expert Joe Young, systems operations manager of the Helix Water District, tonight at the H. Lee House Cultural Center.

For more than three decades Young has been the go-to guy at the Helix Water District for all things H2O. With a vivid PowerPoint presentation, Young will take you upstream and downstream in search of knowledge about the single most vital element outside of oxygen needed to sustain life.

There is no pipeline, storage tank, reservoir, culvert, steam, river, lake, dam, pumping station, or historical flume that Young has not overseen, investigated, fixed and/or improved. When you turn on the tap for that conservation-conscious, three-minute shower, or draw crystalline water from the kitchen faucet, think of the global millions who lack a source of potable water and a Joe Young to ensure that the real deal reaches home in time for daily use.
