Round Hill Hotel & Villas Provides Perfect Jamaican Getaway

Great food, pristine beaches and outstanding hospitality make this a trip worth taking

Nestled in a high tropical hillside west of Montego Bay lies the 110-acre Jamaican resort of Round Hill Hotel & Villas.

Housed in a former pineapple and coconut plantation, this tropical paradise has been a Hollywood hideaway for Clark Gable, John F. Kennedy, Paul McCartney, Fred Astaire, Michael Douglas, Grace Kelly, Meghan Markle and dozens of other famous figures.

Opened in 1952, the property pairs a rich history with modern luxury. Late last year, Round Hill renovated four of their 27 villas, redesigned the lobby landscaping and added three new Har-Tru green clay tennis courts.

Elegant dinners can be enjoyed at the upstairs Restaurant at Round Hill offering Chef Martin Maginley’s light Caribbean cuisine. Dishes incorporate organic vegetables and herbs from the resort’s garden. Specialties include lemongrass Caribbean lobster bisque, short-rib beef wellington, grilled tuna with soffrito and pineapple tarte tartin with Scotch Bonnet ice cream.

Al fresco dinners under the stars can be experienced at the resort’s Seaside Terrace. Every Friday the Terrace hosts a Jamaican food and culture event featuring a buffet with local dishes and a lively show.

Breakfast can be enjoyed at the rooftop Grill restaurant, offering panoramic views in a romantic setting. Dishes are prepared on the wood-fired grill using indigenous logwood. Guests can choose from fresh smoothies, baked goods, homemade waffles and pancakes and a variety of egg dishes.

An afternoon tea is served in the lounge area including traditional finger sandwiches and desserts.

The spa area offers exercise and yoga classes in a relaxing open air pavilion with ocean views. Spa services include seaside massages, a signature coconut rub and milk ritual wrap, pineapple body buff, a Jamaican coffee bean scrub and a cucumber cooler facial provided in seven treatment rooms housed in a restored 18th century plantation house. The spa area also includes a pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

Walking to the spa is a relaxing experience on its own as guests follow a narrow nature path featuring local fragrant foliage and naturally tumbled white rocks that create a meditative calming sound.
